In today's computing terms, a Demilitarised Zone (commonly abbreviated as DMZ) is a term that is used to refer to a Network Security Zone configured to physically reside between a volatile “untrusted network” (eg. the Internet) and a “trusted network” (eg. an organization's private network or LAN).

The DMZ's primary role is to ensure internal trusted networks are held an extra step away from volatile public networks like the Internet.

Not to be mistaken with the DMZ / Bastion Host option in an ADSL Router or Firewall, physically configuring an array of services within the DMZ has been out of reach for most small to medium enterprises (SMEs) because of the costs and complexities involved in establishing and maintaining the DMZ network - essentially a double-up of hardware and network services(e.g. SME needs 2 email servers).

Adding a further layer of complexity and applying the principles of separation, the DMZ should have different hardware and systems compared to those found within the trusted network to bolster security.

iWebGate has intuitively converged a suite of network services into a single DMZ solution which seamlessly integrates with existing infrastructure to magnify an organization's investment in network security and business systems.
