For 16 years the AIIA has hosted the iAwards as the Australian member of the Asia-Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA), to deliver the only truly international awards program to the national technology community. In 2010, the iAwards received a record number of nominees.
"We are overwhelmed and incredibly honoured to have received this year's award in the Security category. It's truly fantastic to have our work recognized by our industry leaders and to be recognized as a leader in our industry sector. The team has done an incredible job which is reflected in our groundbreaking technology", says Mr. Charles Gargett, Technical Director at iWebGate. |
|
“What’s amazing is the number of value added resellers, independent software vendors and managed IT service companies who implement things like remote access services, business intelligence reporting services and hosted applications for their customers without Demilitarised Zones (DMZs) in mind.
These customers are not impressed when they are breached or see how easy applications and/or information residing in their trusted networks can be violently penetrated - in less than 10 seconds!
We take great pleasure in solving universal problems and creating new business opportunities by offering breakthrough network technology that is being recognized by industry leaders around the world”, says Mr. Tim Gooch, Managing Director at iWebGate. |
“iWebGate’s DMZ technology is so much more than just another security product. It changes the way we secure networks and connect over the Internet. iWebGate Wins Western Australia iAward
Australian Information Industry Award (AIIA)
State (WA) iAwards Program |
|
iWebGate has received its second award for 2010 at the Western Australia AIIA iAwards presentation at the KPMG Conference Centre on Wednesday, 7th July, 2010.
The iAwards is Australia's premier technology innovation awards program.
iWebGate has been awarded Winner of the Security Application Category at the AIIA State iAwards in Western Australia and follows up on their recent success at the 7th Annual The Security Summit in San Diego, U.S.A in March 2010.
The Company is automatically invited to participate in the National AIIA iAwards to be held in Melbourne, Australia on 5th August 2010 where they will have the chance to show-case their product to a highly regarded panel of judges for a chance to receive national recognition for their DMZ Server "Ghost Network Platform" and a chance to represent Australia later in the year at the Asia-Pacific iAwards as one of the country's finest technology companies.
The DMZ technology (or DMZ in a Box) provides a very simple means of quickly establishing an appropriate level of separation of the private, trusted network from the public Internet.
Security on the Internet is not just about implementing a firewall at the perimeter of a network.
The firewall is just the start and we are making it our mission to ensure Network Administrators and Business Owners are aware of their responsibilities when connecting to the public Internet.
Implementing iWebGate's DMZ Platform provides important additional layers of security that make it significantly harder for unauthorized users to attack business critical servers, workstations and other sensitive nodes on the trusted network.
An impressive amount of time and effort has been put into the research and development of the Ghost Network Platform resulting in a product that is very simple for organizations of any size to use and deploy. More often than not, there is no requirement to alter any existing infrastructure in order to implement our server and integration can be completely seamless.

Recruitment firm remotely connects to office with amazing speed and reliablilty
Boston Kennedy
HR & Recruitment |
|
Boston Kennedy implemented an iWebGate Ghost Network Platform to address the growing need for remote offices to Melbourne's head office to quickly, reliably and securely access Terminal Services and Remote Desktops as well as providing inexpensive and trustworthy e-mail filtering services.
Boston Kennedy (BK) is a leader in executive recruitment in Australia. With a history stretching back since 2002, BK has offices in Melbourne (Head Office) and Sydney plus satellite offices in the UK and Johannesburg.
As a result of significant growth, BK rapidly deployed a DMZ solution in their Melbourne office to:
|
Centralize IT architecture between Sydney and Melbourne offices |
|
Provide management and staff with remote access to their applications and information on demand |
|
Implement effective email filtering services |
|
Automatically generate financial business reports |
Eliminating the need for VPN connections and ensuring no ports are insecurely opened and redirected to critical trusted hosts, the remote access services (iConnect) delivered by the Ghost Network Platform significantly improved remote desktop connection speeds and reliability.
Integrated mail services immediately save the cost, effort and integration associated with deploying a complex and expensive email filtering system. Automatic financial reporting has been implement and business intelligence services (e.g. online pay slips, automatic debtor reminders) are being considered.

Fertility center says goodbye to VPN connections and saves tens of thousands $$$
Concept Fertility Centre have been using the iWebGate DMZ Solution for email filtering web services and remote access using iConnect Bridging for some time enjoying the benefits it brings to accessing local resources from remote locations and the security it brings and have recently used iConnect Peering service for network-to-network connectivity (or infrastructure VPN) between two premises.
iWebGate were approached by the Concept Fertility network administrators looking for an in-expensive, high performance network-to-network VPN solution to facilitate the ability for their existing network servers and resources to be reached by thin client terminals from their newly established small private hospital. The initial requirement was to provide temporary network-to-network VPN infrastructure before a final and complete move into their new premises but could not find a cost effective solution to their requirements.
iWebGate proposed the use of iConnect Peering (using VLAN/MP2P) and their existing Ghost Network Platform as the "Broker Server" to establish a temporary two-node Peer-to-Peer connection to create a network bridge between the two networks. Integration of the network bridge was complete and operational in a matter of hours saving Concept Fertility thousands of dollars in hardware purchases and set up costs.

Mining company takes BI reporting to new heights
Consolidated Minerals
Mining |
|
Consolidated Minerals implemented an iWebGate Ghost Network Platform for its impressive reporting capabilities. With iReports (reporting services in the Ghost Network Platform), the company is able to collect data from their Pronto Server and various other sources (including mine sites) to compile literally hundreds of reports as often as hourly, daily or even on-demand.
One of Australia’s most prominent mining groups, Consolidated Minerals Limited (CML) deployed an iWebGate Server to reduce the time, errors and costs associated with manually generating and delivering business critical reports. Reports that used to take up to 10 hours a week to compile manually now run automatically even on a daily basis with superior uptime performance. Management are kept up to speed with end-of-month financial and physicals data plus the ability to securely login on demand to their portal and access hundreds of reports stored in a secure, trusted user folder environment.
With the ability to seamless collect, report and deliver information from different applications found in a variety of networks, CML has recently started to expand consolidated reporting services and integrated information between different data sources. For example:
|
Staff can now directly access financial data pertaining to tenements within their tenement reports |
|
Commodity and stock prices are automatically integrated with finance reports (i.e. information seamlessly collected from ASX) |
Reporting services now also include the ability to instantly track discrepancies with purchase orders (e.g. date raised compared with date invoiced).
Collaboration has also been enhance by enabling financial reports for Australian operations to be reliably and securely access on demand by senior management located in London. Management report packs can be compiled with a few clicks through the iWebGate Server's ability to merge multiple PDF documents across multiple directories.
Consolidated Minerals are also employing the flexibility of the iCatalogue CMS system in the iWebGate Server to manage and control their internal Intranet service allowing difference departments to securely manage their own section of the site. The completed project will also integrate the already available reports for simple delivery to multiple levels of management.

Accounting firm strengthens security and delivers "private cloud" solutions to clients
LGS Business Consultants
Accounting and Advisory Services |
|
LGS Business Consultants needed to improve their level of network security, eliminate VPN issues and streamline remote access for staff while delivering private cloud services to clients. All of their requirements were found and achieved through the deployment of a single iWebGate DMZ Solution.
LGS Business Consultants (WA) is a proactive accounting and advisory firm that experienced significant troubles in the past with their staff remotely accessing the office using VPN technology.
Slow, unreliable connections that kept dropping out became a thing of the past once they deployed an iWebGate Ghost Network Platform. In fact, whilst recently travelling on business through Fiji, management was able to easily connect to office resources without a single issue and without the need to install anything on client-end computers.
Importantly, the practice has received and is about to leverage off the additional services incorporated with their Ghost Network Platform including:
|
Online business reporting from their clients' accounting and CRM data files |
|
Online accounting support and training services |
|
Online bookkeeping services |
|
Remote and automatic backup of their clients' accounting data files |
|
Automatic debtor reminder notices for their clients |
|
Automatic payslips for their clients |
|
Online storage of corporate documents (e.g. financial statements, board papers) |
|
Secure means to transfer documents with clients and file size restrictions |
|
Host client websites with online CMS, shopping and catalogue management tools included |
|
Host applications and/or data sources for clients |
|
Provide free and highly effective anti-virus and anti-spam email filtering services for clients |
|
Enable clients to conveniently send SMS messages from any Internet connected computer |
|
Host online training and education courses for clients |
|
Remote connection services which allow clients to conveniently access their systems no matter what network they are located in and without the need for VPN connections or insecure port mapping |
All these services and more are available from a single Ghost Network Platform (i.e. there is no need to install a unit in client networks).
The most recent addition of “private cloud” services enabled LGS to quickly solve remote connection issues for clients. Their clients were also battling with VPN connection issues especially when they were in regional areas and/or leveraging off satellite connections. LGS simply established virtual local area networks (VLANs) using their Ghost Network Platform as the “broker” server. LGS was able to establish a meshed network which enables their clients to communicate over multi peer-to-peer (MP2P) connections using iWebGate’s iConnect Peering.
The end result – clients are able to remotely connect to any computer (peer) at a ‘layer 2’ networking level which enables them to use any application and appear as if all devices are connected in the same physical office ... without the slow speeds, frequent drop outs and inability to connect when compared to VPN connections!
iWebGate ... enables accounting and advisory firms to do extraordinary things. LGS is able to resolve remote network problems and establish an array of “private cloud” solutions for their clients!

Corporate health provider streamlines booking processes and reports smarter
Onsite Health Solutions
Corporate Health Services |
|
Onsite Health Solutions (“OHS”) delivers an array of effective corporate health services and well-being programs for some of Australia's most prominent organisations.
OHS initially deployed their iWebGate DMZ Solution to deliver the fastest and most reliable remote access service for their team and eliminated the need for VPN connections. With not a single day of downtime, OHS' staff can reliably access their office resources in the toughest locations.
Additionally, in the same DMZ Solution, OHS improved its collaborative processes and expanded their reporting services to automatically deliver program results to their customers.
The benefits:
|
The business sustains incredible growth and has quickly expanded services into regional and city areas around Australia |
|
OHS eliminated the time errors and costs associated with manually generating graphically intuitive reports |
|
Customers are kept up to speed on demand with information related to their services and measured outcomes that they could only dream of receiving from competitive providers |
After being selected by the Victorian Government to deliver health assessment services to the people of Victoria (Australia), OHS engaged iWebGate to further enhance the Ghost Network Platform through the integration of a tailored “Online Booking and Assessment Management System”. Integrated into the Ghost Network Platform through customized core extensions, the application allows both management and assessors to control their assessment schedules for clients easily and reliably.
The booking and management system has been tightly integrated into the Ghost Network Platform allowing both staff and clients to access their respective information from anywhere and at any time. Assessment periods are populated automatically with the click of a mouse saving the time required to manually manage schedules so that assessors can concentrate on getting client assessments completed in a timely fashion.
Competitive Advantage #1
iWebGate’s DMZ Solution enables OHS to easily manage high volumes of assessment services at competitively-low prices because they have virtually eliminated all time and resources associated with the management of booking processes.
OHS continue to enjoy the secure services that are offered through their server including secure reverse-proxy access to Outlook Web Access, RPC over HTTPS and ActiveSync services from Exchange Server. All this knowing that their corporate network is secured against very real threats.
Competitive Advantage #2
DMZ security provides OHS with a significant competitive advantage, especially when they compete for services against other companies who do not treat their medical records as sacrosanct by:
|
Insecurely exchange sensitive and confidential information (e.g. program results, pre-employment medical results) via unencrypted email and/or ftp processes |
|
Implementing VPN services |
|
Open and directly linking (mapping) ports in the perimeter firewall to primary business systems residing on the trusted network |
|
Hosting sensitive and confidential information with 3rd party providers (e.g. competitor subscribes to hosted email, medical record and/or file storage services) |
|

National vendor connects to ERP system (Pronto) via iWebGate's P2P technology
Paramount Safety - Prochoice Safety Gear
Safety Equipment Sales |
|
Paramount Safety had some significant VPN connection issues that needed resolving. With head office in Perth and staff scattered all around Australia we decided to implement our latest feature in the Ghost Network Platform - remote access via a multi peer-to-peer framework. Instead of installing more expensive VPN solutions, Paramount Safety installed an iWebGate DMZ Server running the required Broker Server to connect east coast staff to their ERP (Pronto) Server in Perth.
Paramount Safety was the first organisation to trial iWebGate's new VLAN/MP2P Layer 2 Peer-to-Peer network software outside of internal testing. The software is used to connect remote staff on the east coast of Australia to the Pronto Server on the west coast. No re-writing of code in the Pronto Client software was necessary for Peer-to-Peer utilization as the connection negotiation algorithms reside at a pseudo-layer 2 level and is presented to the applications as another network interface.
Not only did the software secure access by eliminating the unsafe port redirection configuration to the Pronto Server, it also dramatically improved initial connectivity latency from 40-60 seconds down to 1-2 seconds. Overall working performance also improved as the VLAN/MP2P software only adds a 2-4 millisecond overhead to remote connections which is negligible to the user experience.
Paramount Safety have continued to use the software in their live environment and have recently added a new SQL Server based application to the infrastructure and are happily using the VLAN/MP2P software to remotely connect to this new software. The Ghost Network Platform has also added the usual level of security and protection to Paramount's business critical trusted network by employing the integrated DMZ services the unit offers.
iWebGate certainly appreciates the co-operation of Paramount Safety in trialling our new software release.

National wholesaler deploys nearly all aspects of iWebGate's DMZ technology
Richgro Garden Products
Wholesale Garden Products |
|
Richgro Garden Products have now engaged nearly all of the services offered by the iWebGate Ghost Network Platform. Integrating the unit into their own network, staff enjoy simplicity in accessing remote desktop, email (including Exchange Server), WebDAV, secure FTP, and flexible web hosting and content management services.
Richgro is an example of a company that has engaged nearly all of the services available in the Ghost Network Platform from e-mail services and secure remote access to business intelligence reporting and web site hosting. Richgro have since discovered new efficiencies that were previously difficult or impossible to achieve.
Roaming and remote staff as far away as South Africa are able to securely access the services and information hosted on their DMZ solution without the need for any client-side software installations or VPN clients and services.
Email services in the Ghost Network Platform are also employed to deliver e-mail services to roaming users while also protecting an Exchange Server residing on the trusted network for local staff at head office. All e-mail is filtered by the Ghost Network Platform for viruses and SPAM before being relayed to the Exchange Server or delivered locally depending on the intended recipient
Interestingly, Richgro has also engaged iWebGate's hosted services for content management of their Richgro and Amazon Soils web sites that demand higher bandwidth requirements. Staff are able to manage the two sites using the now familiar interface of the iCatalogue CMS from any computer connected to the web - including their smartphones.

Legal firm provides staff with secured access to e-mail and remote desktops
Solomon Brothers
Barristers, Solicitors & Attorneys |
|
Solomon Brothers are a prominent Western Australian based legal firm and as such require stringent policies when it comes to securing their I.T. infrastructure. The company implemented an iWebGate DMZ Solution in a true DMZ model to provide secured access to e-mail and remote desktop access for their I.T. support team.
Solomon Brothers have benefited from the cost savings of only having to deploy a Ghost Network Platform inside their DMZ security zone instead of multiple servers and additional licensing costs. The Ghost Network Platform is able to provide all the services necessary to protect the trusted network and to control incoming and outgoing traffic including e-mail and web.
Additional cost savings are gained from the user-licence free Anti-Virus and Anti-SPAM filtering services provided in the Ghost Network Platform. General staff members utilize all of the e-mail services of the Ghost Network Platform while roaming staff and management are able to access their e-mail services including ActiveSync and Blackberry access on the Exchange Server residing on the trusted network without exposing the server directly to the untrusted network.
With the trusted network primarily based on Terminal Server and thin client technology, Solomon Brothers has also achieved cost savings on external I.T. support by allowing I.T. consultants to securely connect into the Terminal Server through iConnect from any location, again without exposing the Terminal Server directly to the untrusted network.
The iWebGate Ghost Network Platform also hosts a number of web sites associated with the firm allowing staff to maintain their sites quickly and efficiently.

Business consultancy firm connects better and starts
William Buck
Accounting and Advisory Services |
|
One of Australia’s leading business advisory and chartered accounting firms, William Buck, has recently deployed an iWebGate DMZ Server in their Western Australian office. They needed to overcome sustained issues associated with their VPN solution when working remotely and abroad.
William Buck's aim was to provide improved security and ease of access for roaming staff including senior management. In addition to superior speed and reliability, management was recently able to securely connect remotely to their office whilst travelling on business through South-East through the use of their iWebGate DMZ Solution ... a technical barrier they could not overcome with their VPN service in the past!
I.T. Managers are now ramping up the DMZ Ghost Network Platform to offer secure “Private Cloud Services” for their clients.
iWebGate staff have also worked with William Buck's I.T. management to engineer secure file storage and management systems in the Ghost Network Platform. This has resulted in the ability to tightly integrate the Server into their existing Active Directory based network.
Files and folders on the Ghost Network Platform can be managed from any Windows-based PC or Server which in turn can be on-shared via the iFolders web interface, the integrated secure FTP service and/or WebDAV shares. This ultimately eliminates the need for William Buck to email sensitive information to clients and obtain large files from clients (e.g. accounting system database) without file-size restrictions.

Peer-to-peer ("P2P") services enable users to connect to disparate networks

iWebGate is pleased to announce the release of a new software sub-product - virtual local area network (VLAN) over multi peer-to-peer (MP2P), or VLAN/MP2P.
Companies now have access to a fantastic new alternative to traditional VPN solutions!
Built specifically with the DMZ in mind,
iWebGate's VLAN/MP2P software is a software sub-product that provides VPN style networking at the layer 2 level and, unlike traditional VPN solutions, uses Peer-to-Peer technology to communicate amongst VLAN nodes.
The P2P connectivity alleviates the need to involve the DMZ Server to relay traffic between remote nodes meaning that two or more nodes in completely disparate network can communicate directly with each other using any network aware software.
In other words, iWebGate enables users to establish a meshed network topology rather than a star network topology as found with most VPN services. The result ... very fast, secure and reliable connections!
As is found in managed switches, the software establishes a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) layered over the top of a wide area network such as the Internet providing nearly all of the features normally found in switch-based counterparts.
This new feature opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Our customers can:
|
Remotely connect to their office network |
|
Remotely connect to disparate networks |
|
Provide remote connection solutions for their clients as a "private cloud" service |
As a result of this latest feature associated with the iWebGate Ghost Network Platform, all LAN-based software is now P2P enabled without changing a single line of code!
|

BI reporting services now in your DMZ ... start delivering "cloud reporting" solutions

iWebGate recently incorporated a suite of reporting and file management services in the Ghost Network Platform. A clever data collection tool, which securely communicates with your iWebGate DMZ Solution at scheduled times, was also created to ensure your trusted network was considered disparate for security reasons when compared to your DMZ.
This unique feature adds a prudent layer of security to your BI reporting solutions. The same process also provides an amazing way to collect and report on just about any type of data available from anywhere with network connectivity (i.e. remote / disparate networks).
As a result, our customers can now provide a “cloud reporting service” to their customers from a single iWebGate Ghost Network Platform!

Microsoft Exchange and OWA receive a boost in security

Adhering to the principles of separation, the iWebGate DMZ solution is established on independent hardware and includes a different suite of services cleverly configured in the Ghost Network Platform compared to most services found in the majority of trusted networks.
iWebGate's technical philosophy proves
ideal for Microsoft-based technologies. Striving to continually integrate services, iWebGate now enables users to securely connect to ALL Microsoft Exchange services via any smartphone that is Active Sync aware - including the Apple iPhone.
Tthe iWebGate Ghost Network Platform ensures that a Microsoft Exchange Server is NEVER directly exposed to a public network like the Internet.
Trusted users can seamlessly connect to multiple independent Microsoft Exchange servers within a network through a single port and one SSL certificate which does not need to reside on any Windows server making technical setup and maintenance quicker, more affordable and easier than ever before!
Outlook web access is also now available by logging in remotely to your iWebGate Server with a single sign-on process making secure remote access to your Microsoft Exchange services just so simple!
User administration is made so simple with Active Directory integration and authentication now available on a per-site basis (remember you can host multiple sites / organisations in a single iWebGate Ghost Network Platform) without the need to specify preferred servers (servers are identified through DNS lookups).
